As the Regional Researcher for North Africa, your primary responsibility will be to lead research and advocacy strategies addressing key human rights issues across the region. The role requires extensive engagement with local stakeholders, field missions, and report writing—all contributing to Amnesty International’s global advocacy goals.

Your main tasks will include:

  • Strategic Research Planning:
    • Develop and implement research and campaign strategies focused on human rights concerns in countries across North Africa.
    • Identify emerging trends, crises, and violations and design timely responses.
  • Monitoring and Analysis:
    • Closely monitor political, legal, and social developments in the region.
    • Conduct thorough analysis of human rights violations and provide independent, impartial assessments.
  • Field Research Missions:
    • Lead or participate in fact-finding missions, including in crisis or post-conflict contexts.
    • Prepare comprehensive security and political risk assessments prior to field travel.
  • Stakeholder Engagement:
    • Represent Amnesty International in key external forums, including international conferences, civil society networks, media briefings, and meetings with governmental or intergovernmental bodies.
    • Build and sustain collaborative relationships with NGOs, journalists, legal experts, academics, and activists.
  • Publication and Reporting:
    • Draft high-quality research outputs including reports, briefings, public statements, and submissions to human rights bodies.
    • Ensure that all outputs are timely, accurate, and grounded in verifiable evidence.
  • Internal Collaboration and Advisory:
    • Collaborate with campaigners, media, policy, and legal teams to amplify research findings.
    • Provide expert guidance and support to regional and thematic colleagues across Amnesty International.
  • Capacity Building and Information Sharing:
    • Share best practices and promote innovative research methodologies, including participatory research and digital evidence gathering.
    • Support internal learning, especially on security, ethical research, and survivor-centered approaches.
