Consultancy: Assessment of systems’ capacity for GBV response and protection, including feasibility of safe house establishment and operations.

Flying Kites partners with teachers in rural (South Kinangop Sub-County, Nyandarua County) Kenya to transform primary schools so that girls can thrive. Delivered in public primary schools, our work is focused on training teachers and mobilizing communities to support girls during very young adolescence (ages 10-14), a critical time for their physical, social, and emotional development, and an age where they are exposed to increased risks to their rights and well-being. At Flying Kites, we envision a world where all girls can live healthy, self-determined lives and make informed decisions about their bodies, their education and their futures.

Assignment Purpose

Objective One: Assess the approach, capacity, and potential gaps in systems and services in South Kinangop to meet the immediate protection needs, and long-term integration needs of survivors ofGBV, including increased reporting and other consequences of Flying Kites’ work addressing GBV in South Kinangop.

Objective Two: Informed by Objective One results and recommendations, conduct an assessment to determine the feasibility for the establishment of a safe house (protective space) for survivors of gender based violence, specifically girls and women, in Nyandarua county. The objective should inform how best to support the government in building the capacity of safe houses, including potential for implementation and management by expert organizations and the County.

Objective Three: Informed by Objectives One and Two, assessment of opportunities for Flying Kitesto address GBV, including potential partners and advisory on any potential unintended consequences of our work and mitigation strategies.
